UK Grower Cocopeat Buying Guide: Specs That Matter Before You Order
What UK commercial growers should check on cocopeat blocks and grow bags before ordering from an Indonesian cocopeat block producer.
If you grow in the UK and buy Indonesian cocopeat blocks by the container, start with EC, expansion, moisture, and pack density. Those four numbers, agreed with the producer before you order, decide landed cost and crop performance more than brand copy.
What low EC means on a packing list
Ask for the measurement method. Our low EC cocopeat blocks are specified at max 0.7 mS/cm (1:3). High EC stock sits above 1 mS/cm (1:3). Both typically run pH 5–7 with moisture under 20% on compressed blocks.
Container maths for UK ports
A 4.5–5 kg block with 60–70 L expansion loads about 4,400 units in a 40ft HC. Grow bags at 800–850 g load around 18,000 bags per 40ft HC. Use those figures to compare quotes on a per-litre expanded basis, not only per block.
Documents buyers usually need
